There are many Rules and Regulations we follow in the league play format to try our best to make the games fair and enjoyable.
Here are the Rules, Explanations and Q & A
"Doubles" Game Format
- Doubles are played by four (2 man) teams. One Front court and one Back court player per team compete against the other three teams in round robin sequence, till one team reaches 7 points on the court to win the game. Each match is played for one point between two teams. Losing team drops back in line and the winning team plays the next team in line.
- Each Player will play approximately 5-6 games per night with a different team mate in each game, except in the case of scratches or uneven rankings.
- Overall Rankings are based on TOTAL POINTS Scored... Not WPS Stats or Percentages.
- A WIN earns 7 points for the game and 3 bonus points for the Win. 10 points overall.
- A PLACE earns the points scored in the game and 2 bonus points for the Place.Overall points vary according to the scored points.
-
A SHOW earns the points scored in the game and 1 bonus point for the Show.Overall points vary according to the scored points.
-
A 4th Place earns only points scored in the game and NO bonus points.
-
Scores are frozen at Win and any Tie-Breaker points in playoffs are not added to scores.
-
The better a player plays and scores points, the higher in ranking he will rise and consequently will be playing with higher ranked players. If a player scores less points than average, he will drop in ranking and play against lower ranked players.
-
In both the Front court and Back court rankings.... the top 33.3% ranked players are considered AA Class players. The middle 33.3% ranked players are considered A Class players. The lower 33.3% ranked are considered B Class players. It takes 12 front and 12 back court players (24 total) to have an evenly matched 4 front and 4 back court players in each of the three classes.
-
If less than 24 players sign up for the league on opening night... Only two classes (AA and A) or (A and B) will be represented, depending on the ability of the players.
-
A Player may miss the first two weeks of scheduled play but must be available and ready to play in Week three's scheduled games in order to be on the roster. Missing more than two weeks of play can make it difficult to make up the games missed and have enough games played to be qualified for a trophy based on the players points scored. A player must have played in at least 90% of his normally scheduled games to be eligible for a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place trophy.
-
The League is scheduled for twelve (12) weeks of play on Wednesday evenings beginning at 7:00 pm. Practice is scheduled from 7:00 till 7:12 for the first group of players in games 1 through 6. Practice for the remaining players is scheduled for about 12-14 minutes after game 6 is finished.
-
SERVES... Only one serve shall be allowed for each point in all games. The Pelota must hit the front wall first and rebound and make contact with the floor between the Under Serve Line and the Over Serve Line. The serve known as TWO WALL or CAROM shall not be allowed.
Q & A
(Q1) If I quit the league, do I get my money back?
(A) The Fees charged to play in the league are used to cover the Court Rental, Trophies, Prizes, Food, Drinks, Web site costs, Printer ink and paper costs, and a portion goes to Vic for overall work done. Normally, any player quitting the league early will not get any money refunded. If the circumstances are due to major injury or sickness preventing the player from participating, then an exception can be made. But missing a week or weeks due to vacation, work conflict, traffic problems, ranking low, giving up and quitting, etc, are not considered worthy of a refund since this will cause more problems with managing the expenses and maintaining the continuance of league play. In short, DO NOT sign-up to play if you cannot finish the entire 12 week period.
(Q2) How are Players Ranked into the AA, A or B Class?
(A) Most players have played for a number of years and can play to a particular skill level for doubles game play. Elorri decides, after watching a new player perform on the court, whether he has the skills needed to play with the better AA players or if he should drop to one of the other class level of either A or B Class. Once a player improves his ability on the court and can win games gainst his own skill level at a higher than average percentage, he will most likely move upward in the rankings and play against the better players. In some cases, a player may not have enough practice time under his belt to actually play confidently in Doubles game play. Elorri will normally not allow such a player to play in the league. Simply put... more practice will help the player perfect his catching and throwing skills to the point of makng it possible to play in the next league a few months down the calendar.
